This introductory level course will aim at providing the participants with the solid basics of Graphic Design. Through a series of case study showcases, the course will enrich the students with a design literacy that explain the various components of graphic design practice. It is targeted to people interested in Graphic Design and with the interest of developing their basic design skills or with ambitions to engage in a career in the field through further education.

Separately, the course will include a technical component that introduces the most needed computer graphics software in graphic design, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Phtoshop, and will provide the participants with the knowledge of using it for transforming sketches and ideas into a computer generated image.

The course is prepared by international experts in the field and will be at the level of university introductory courses aiming at providing a solid foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge in the principles of visual language, which could be further developed in the following graphic design course, GD2.

This introductory level course will build further on the basics delivered in the GD1 course and focus on applying the knowledge gained into specific graphic design contexts. Through a series of practical assignments participants will exercise exploring compositions and visual communication basics into real life basic graphic design projects.

The projects developed in the course will focus on exercising a correct design process and will include poster design, packaging design, rebranding, infographics, digital art techniques using Photoshop, as well as layout design using InDesign.

Separately, the course will build further on the technical component that introduced in GD1. The course will focus on teaching the software Adobe Photoshop and will provide the participants with the knowledge of using it for edit images and to create photographic compositions that they can include in their graphic design work.

The course is prepared by international experts in the field and will be at the level of university introductory courses aiming at providing a solid foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge in the principles of graphic design, which could be further developed in the following range of intermedi- ate graphic design courses.
